Calculate Nakshatra + pada

Use the child's date, birth time, and birthplace. The result should say something like Rohini, Pada 2.

Step 2

Read one cell only

Find the Nakshatra row, then the pada column. That one cell is the traditional starting sound.

Step 3

Turn it into a real name

If the cell says Va, shortlist names that begin with the Va sound, then choose by meaning and family preference.

What the result means

In Vedic naming, the Moon's birth Nakshatra is used because the Moon represents the child's mind, feeling nature, and early imprint. Each Nakshatra has four padas, and each pada has a recommended opening sound.

This is not a full name generator. It tells you the sound to begin from. After that, you still choose a name that has a good meaning, sounds natural in your language, and feels right to the family.

Do not guess the pada

One Nakshatra has four possible sounds. If the pada is missing, calculate it before choosing names.

Check close birth times

If the child was born near a Nakshatra or pada change, exact time and birthplace matter more.

After you find the sound

Make a shortlist

Write 10 to 20 names that begin with the suggested sound, then remove names that feel forced.

Check meaning

Prefer a name with a clear, auspicious, and personally loved meaning. Avoid choosing only because the first syllable matches.

Say it aloud

Check pronunciation with surname, initials, spelling, daily usability, and how the name feels when spoken aloud.

Regional spelling can vary.

Treat the table as a sound guide, not a rigid English spelling rule. A family may write a name differently in English while the spoken first sound remains the same in Hindi, Sanskrit, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, or another language.

When to be careful.

Be extra careful if the birth time is approximate, the child was born near midnight, or the place/timezone was entered loosely. Small differences can change the pada, which changes the naming sound.
